Bicycle Kitchen

The Bicycle Kitchen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit bicycle repair educational organization. We are a group of volunteers who run a space in Los Angeles filled with tools and stands for working on bicycles. Our hope is that you will come down and work on your bike! We will help you. We ask for a SUGGESTED DONATION of $8 per hour (no one is turned away for lack of funds). We have almost every tool you could need and every shift at least one of us will be able to answer whatever question you may have…(hopefully).

Our Services

  • If your bike needs help or you would like to build a bike from our donated frames and parts, visit us during our hours of operation (pro tip: call first to make sure we’re open). We’ll provide the guidance, tools, and parts (supply willing) to help you build, repair, and maintain your bike.

    1. FIX-A-FLAT Ever first Saturday of the month

    2. GENERAL MAINTANCE Ever Second saturday of the month

  • Youth Bike Build

Our six-week Youth Build-a-Bike program teaches 12-18 year-olds how to build and maintain bicycles – and participants earn a bike and helmet.

  • Donate Bikes, Parts, or Funds

    Your donations support your community

Donate used bikes and parts to help members of the community have access to clean transportation, help preserve our planet, and help keep our doors open. If you’d like to donate bikes or parts, just drop them off when we’re open. Tax donation receipts available.

All hours are subject to closure should we not have the Cook power. Please call us in advance at (323) NO-CARRO / (323) 662-2776 to be sure we’re open.

We Are NOT a Bike Store:

We do not buy or sell bikes, nor do we fix bikes for you. What we do is teach people to work on their own bikes. Many people already know how to work on bikes, that’s fine too, we’re here if you need us but we’ll leave you alone if you don’t… unless you’d just like to chat.

Although we don’t sell bikes we will price a “Project Bike ” and ask for a suggested donation. A Project is a bike you build at the kitchen with some or all of our used parts. A price is decided upon at the beginning based on the basic parts you will be working with and the amount you can afford. Remember–no one is turned away for lack of funds. Many people have built entire bikes from our motley pile of old parts, often a few parts will have to be bought new. Every Project is unique. We just ask that you complete your Project Bike within 30 days of picking it out.
